Many companies are now offering an absence management service. This has come about for reasons of competitive differentiation, and by virtue that everyone is now doing it, I’m not sure where the difference is any more!
However, there is a benefit for the claims manager in absence management, but not many companies are able to realize this currently.
Its all about early intervention. Once we understand the profile of a claim that’s going to have a long duration, we need to identify that claim as soon as we have enough data to predict the direction that it might be headed.
So as soon as an employee reports sick with a lower back sprain, claim management should be on the case.
